Leicester city football club recorded their first win in the premier league for almost two months as Aston Villa visited the king power stadium on Monday 9th March 2020.
The host started brighter and showed they wanted to win the game more than their opponents, putting some nice passage of play together and forcing few saves from the veteran keeper of Aston Villa, Pepe Reina.
It was, however, the veteran keeper who gifted the opening goal to Leicester city five minutes before the break, after racing off his line to confront Harvey Barnes, who easily takes the keep out with one touch, cuts inside and bends it past two defenders to make it 1-0 to the host before the break.
Aston Villa came out determined in the second half but it Leicester city that had the first effort on goal after the restart. Kelechi Iheanacho who was on a three consecutive game scoring streak against Aston Villa in all competition having scored in the league match played earlier in the season at villa park and scored in the both legs of the league cup defeat against Aston Villa, was not going to make it four games scoring streak as he made way for veteran striker Jamie Vardy, who was making his 300th appearance for the foxes, having started on the bench as he was recovering for injury.
Jamie Vardy was just on the pitch for only three minutes before he had a chance to score from the penalty spot after the match referee, Michael Oliver gave a foul against Tyrone Mings for handling the ball in the penalty area. Vardy made no mistake from the penalty spot, scoring on his 300th appearance for the club
Jamie Vardy scored his second 10 minutes from time, as he cuts inside from the left and reacts quickly to a block to finish nicely pass Reina, the former Liverpool shot stopper.
Harvey Barnes rounded off scoring with four minutes remaining after a nice work from Albrighton, picking out Barnes in the middle of the box and midfielder tucked the ball away at the near post, nicely.
Leicester city goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel who was making his 200th premier league appearance was largely untroubled throughout the match.
