After Lewis Hamilton’s comments about the F1 being silent, some Formula one drivers and Formula one teams, have come out to to speak against the racial injustice in the world at the moment.
The six time F1 world champion, Hamilton said, “he feels alone” in the fight against racial injustice as no single person or team in the white dominated sport of F1 spoke up against the racial injustice meted out in the U.S.
Charles Leclerc, Daniel Riccardo, Lando Norris and Nicholas Latifi has since spoken out on George Floyd’s murder and the ongoing anti-racism protests after Lewis Hamilton comments about feeling alone.
Charles Leclerc wrote on his Instagram handle, “To be completely honest, I felt out of place and uncomfortable sharing my thoughts on social media about the whole situation and this is why I haven’t expressed myself earlier than today. And I was completely wrong.
“I still struggle to find the words to describe the atrocity of some videos I’ve seen on the internet. Racism needs to be met with actions, not silence. Please be actively participating, engaging and encouraging others to spread awareness. It is our responsibility to speak out against injustice. Don’t be silent. I stand #BlackLivesMatters.”
“Seeing the news in the last few days has left me saddened. What happened to George Floyd and what continues to happen in today’s society is a disgrace” Daniel Riccardo wrote on his Instagram page, he continued, “Now more than ever, we need to stand together, unified together.
“Racism is toxic and needs to be addressed not with violence and silence but with unity and action. We need to stand up, we need to be a WE. Let’s be better people. It’s 2020 ffs. Black lives matter.”
Lando Norris also took to his social media handle to speak out against the racial injustice at the moment, he wrote, “I have fans and followers. Support and love. And I have power through this to lead and inspire so many. But we also stand for what’s right. This time I ask you to do something and take action.
“Go to my bio and click the link to prove your support and show #blacklivesmatter #makeadifference.” the McLaren F1 driver wrote on his Instagram page.
Nicholas Latifi simply wrote, “This has to stop #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd #BlackLivesMatter.” The Canadian driver for F1 team Williams said.
Lewis Hamilton’s F1 team, Mercedes AMG Petronas has since spoken out in support for Hamilton. They wrote on their Twitter handle, “We stand with you Lewis. Tolerance is an elementary principle of our team and we are enriched by diversity in all its forms. We welcome and encourage people from all races, cultures, religions, philosophies and lifestyles, and condemn every form of discrimination as we work together to drive change forward.
“We are deeply saddened by the recent developments and hope for a deescalation soon.”
