Arsenal are on the look out for a new central defensive midfielder and have been strongly linked with a move for Ghanian midfielder, Thomas Partey, who according to many news outlets, has a strong desire to move to the Premier League and Arsenal his preferred club.
However, due to financial constraints, owing to the COVID-19 and the prospect of going four years without Champions League football, Arsenal might find it hard to come up with funds to trigger the release clause of the Athletico Madrid and Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey.
Athletico value Thomas Partey at £43 million. This amount must be triggered before they can consent to the selling of one of their best performers in the past few seasons. Athletico Madrid are however, still clinging to slim hopes of the Ghanian midfielder staying but will be open to selling him if the release clause is paid.
In the event of not being financially buoyant to complete the deal for Thomas Partey, Arsenal are courting a cheaper alternative in the person of FC Porto’s Danilo Pereira according to multiple sources close to the English Premier League club.
Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta is keen to add a stronger physical presence to his midfield but will have to work with limited budget due to financial impact of the COVID-19 and missing out on Champions League football yet again.
Danilo Pereira earns under £50 thousand a week and therefore, his wages won’t be an issue for Arsenal. While his likely transfer fee will be much cheaper than the £43 million for Thomas Partey. Danilo Pereira is open to a move to the Premier league at the end of the season.
Arsenal extended the contracts of a David Luiz, Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari during the which shows the desire of Mikel Arteta to add more maturity and leadership to squad, one of the qualities Danilo Pereira has according to senior figures at Arsenal.
The club are yet to tie down club captain, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and rising star Bukayo Saka to longer deals. But sources say the club is working on solution to tie down their valued assets.
Meanwhile, Matteo Guendouzi is open to leaving the club according to many reports including The Athletic. Arsenal are also willing to listen to offers for the young French man in order to raise funds for other transfer targets.
