Granit Xhaka moving from Arsenal to AS Roma, they had talks earlier in the window, Roma had made bids, but none of those bid were satisfactory to Arsenal and it now seems that Granit Xhaka, he is back in pre season training with Arsenal and he remains a key part in Mikel Arteta’s plans for this season and potentially beyond.
AS Roma have made offers to sign him this window, Arsenal simply did not find any of those offers acceptable. Despite Roma’s efforts, it seems that the realistic talks and realistic chances of Xhaka going from Arsenal to Roma may have disappeared a few weeks ago.
While this appears to be a U-turn from the outside, it should be remembered that Arteta has been a big backer of Granit Xhaka and it is thought that he actually never wanted Xhaka to leave in this transfer window.
Going back to October 2019 and that famous shirt of Granit Xhaka, leaving the pitch when he was subbed against Crystal Palace, roundly booed by the Arsenal fans, jeered by the Arsenal fans and cupped his ear, to say, “what have got? I can’t hear you”. He was then re-integrated into the Arsenal squad by the then manager, Unai Emery, he began to start games for the club.
Unai Emery was then sacked, in came Mikel Arteta, and he made it clear that Granit Xhaka was part of his plans and in January 2020, there was strong talk that Xhaka could leave because of everything that happened with him at Arsenal, for Hertha Berlin.
Mikel Arteta, then revealed a chat that he had with Granit Xhaka, to say “no, I believe in you, believe in this project and you are part of this project”.
One thing to note here though is Granit Xhaka’s contract situation, now , he is not into the final year, so he is not into the red zone as far as players are concerned yet. But he current deal runs out in the summer of 2023. So it seem Arsenal, would want to get some sort of certainty with regards to Xhaka, sorted out in this transfer window.
And the contract extension, has not been ruled out. so from the beginning of this window, there was talk of “when and not if” Granit Xhaka will go from Arsenal to Roma, the talk is now about the contract extension for Xhaka at Arsenal has not been ruled totally and he does remain a key part of Mikel Arteta’s plans as it stands and as it stands, the Roma deal is off for now.
